Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for suitably qualified Clinical Scientists to join the All Wales Medical Genomics Service working flexibly for 37.5 hours per week. These are permanent, full-time posts based at University Hospital of Wales - however, please note that we will be relocating to a new facility at Cardiff Edge in 2024. There are posts available across the service, and the post holder will support the development our cancer services by:
- Expanding solid tumour diagnostic services
- Enhancing and continuously expanding our haematological malignancy service to provide genetic reporting at the point of diagnosis and during treatment, to inform ongoing treatment decisions.
We are at the forefront of developing these services in the UK, working with Clinician's and patients to identify what success looks like as a result of expanded genetic testing in Wales. Experienced applicants withoutregistration will be considered and appointed appropriately until qualifications are achieved. Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the provision of genetic services for a range of inherited and acquired disorders guided by clearly defined policies and procedures. The post holder will have managerial responsibility for an additional component of the Genetics service (e.g. Quality, Training, the supervision / training of designated technical staff). The post holder will undertake service developments in conjunction with the head of the section.
The All Wales Medical Genetics Service (AWMGS) provides a comprehensive clinical genetics and laboratory service clinical genetics services to the 3 million residents of Wales.
Welsh Government and the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee are investing in the All Wales Medical Genomics Service to ensure patient equity across the UK in accessing genetic testing methodologies. The investment has seen a £10 million investment over a 3 year period to ensure AWMGS stays in the forefront of genomic medicine and develops the best diagnostic genetic services for patients.
