Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the Cardiff and Vale Integrated Autism Service. The Integrated Autism Service is a multi-agency specialist autism service, which is jointly hosted by health and social care. The service is one of 7 Integrated Autism Services in Wales set up through Welsh Government funding to address gaps in service provision for autistic adults. We are a small, committed and friendly multi-disciplinary team of health clinicians and local authority Autism Community Workers.

The key aims of the service are to provide support to autistic adults without a learning disability. We provide diagnostic assessments of autism for adults; individual and group interventions; group and individual support to parents and carers of autistic adults; and support to parents and carers of autistic children. We also provide autism training, consultation and advice to professionals working with autistic people and often joint work with other services.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an excellent Registered Health Professional (OT, SALT, CPN, Clinical Psychologist) to join our established multi-disciplinary team working across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. This post offers an exciting opportunity to those professionals interested in autism and keen to work as part of a motivated, caring and friendly MDT. Experience of working with autistic people is important and experience of assessing for autism is desirable but not essential. Of more importance is the enthusiasm and commitment to learning about autism and we are looking for someone motivated, organised and reliable.

The IAS is recruiting to a full-time (37.5 hours per week) substantive Band 7 Specialist Practitioner post.

The successful applicant will be part of the autism diagnostic assessment team and will receive the relevant training required for this, they will provide individual and group support to autistic adults and their support network, and offer liaison, training and consultation to staff in health, social care and the voluntary sector in relation to the support of autistic adults. The service, which started in 2017 is continually developing and improving; therefore, we are looking for someone who can be flexible to service changes and innovate in their practice.

The successful applicants will be able to work under their professional title and access the relevant CPD and supervision opportunities appropriate to their profession.
