Job summary

Applications are invited for three Consultant Paediatric Radiologist posts based at University Hospital of Wales (UHW), Cardiff.

Sessional commitments will be delivered at Children's Hospital for Wales (CHfW), UHW and hospitals across South West Wales as part of a developing network service for Paediatric Radiology. It will provide an exciting opportunity to further develop existing paediatric radiology services across the region and will help towards achieving a more equitable distribution of specialist paediatric radiology provision in South Wales. Sessions will be in all areas of paediatric radiology.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £86,063 per annum to £111,732 per annum plus a further £26,672 per annum available in Commitment Awards. Consultants in Wales paid on one of the first three points of the substantive Consultant pay scale also receive a Wales recruitment incentive payment.

Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join a team of 48 Consultant Radiologists (5 paediatric radiologists) in sharing provision of imaging services across Cardiff and Vale UHB to support primary, secondary and tertiary care across a range of specialties.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services. Academic interests will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's School of Medicine will be expected.

Current post holders together with these new appointments will undertake specialist paediatric radiology on-call at UHW as part of a 1 in 8 rota. It will cover all out-of-hours paediatric radiology for the region - a general Registrar will take initial referrals. There are separate Consultant on-call rotas which cover body, orthopaedic, neuroradiology and interventional radiology.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
