Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant General Paediatrician, based at the Children's Hospital for Wales on the University Hospital of Wales site in Cardiff. This post is available for approximately 12 months and is pending recruitment to a substantive post in the future.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within three months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary for this post is £98,897 per annum.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will join a dedicated team of 8 General Paediatricians delivering the full scope of general paediatric care required for the Children's Hospital for Wales which has a dual remit for secondary care for the local population of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and tertiary services through the South Wales network.
All Consultants have varying interests but the main work is general paediatrics, both acute care including interface with primary care, ED and PHDU/PICU, and a supporting and co-ordinating remit for complex patients requiring tertiary services and community paediatrics as well as a large outpatient service.
There is a 1 in 8 Consultant of the week service model with 1:8 non-resident on-call and in winter months a second on-call Consultant present on week-days 9-5pm on the Children's Assessment Unit (GP referrals).
