Job summary

Are you driven to improve the care and experience of children, young people and families who access services? Are you looking for an opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting families to get the right help at the right time?

If so, we are an innovative and supportive service, implementing a new and exciting vision for children and young people's Neurodevelopment services in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

In 2023 we will be developing our Single Point of Access and triage process for our Neurodevelopment service creating a seamless route for families to get the right support they need. These Community Connector roles will sit within our Single Point of Access and work alongside and in partnership with families to ensure they are able to access the most appropriate support for their child's needs, helping navigate and access services across a range of statutory agencies and third sector partners. You will work with the service to promote and evaluate these new roles.

You should have experience of engaging with and empowering people, including children and young people, who are facing complex social and emotional challenges. You will be able to build trusting relationships with families and connect them to appropriate services that will best support them and their children's needs. You will be confident in building and maintaining relationships with people working across the third sector and public sector.

Main duties of the job

This post is fixed term until 31st March 2024 to meet the needs of the service.

The successful candidate will undertake face to face and virtual work with families to support them to navigate and access services across a range of statutory agencies and third sector partners that will best meet their children's needs.

The successful candidate will:

  • Work directly in partnership with families to identify services and resources that would be helpful in supporting their child's needs
  • Develop an understanding of service offers across statutory and third sector agencies and how these may meet the needs of children
  • Be able to build trusting relationships and networks with third sector and public sector agencies
  • Actively contribute to the development of the service, support the ongoing audit and evaluation of the pilot

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.

Experience

  • Significant work experience with people who have mental health problems, including children and young people. (This includes, but is not limited to, paid employment.)
