Cardiff and Vale University Health Board
This job is now closed
Job summary
Applications are invited for a Consultant Vascular Surgeon to join the South East Wales Vascular Network. The network launched in July 2022 so this is an exciting time to join the team and play a key part in delivering a new model of care for the region.
The post is primarily based at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where, following centralisation, arterial surgery is performed. The appointee will also be expected to provide services to one of the spoke sites in three Health Board areas covered by the network.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £86,063 per annum to £111,732 per annum plus a further £26,672 per annum available in Commitment Awards. Consultants in Wales paid on one of the first three points of the substantive Consultant pay scale also receive a Wales recruitment incentive payment.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will join an enthusiastic and friendly team of 10 vascular surgeons and 8 vascular interventionalists, providing a full spectrum of vascular practice including complex aortic pathologies, carotid revascularisation, peripheral arterial disease, and venous disorders.
With elective and emergency arterial surgery only being performed on the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) site, this will be the primary base. The spoke sites continue to have a vascular presence in the form of outpatient clinics, venous surgery, and a ward liaison service. The post holder will be expected to have spoke site duties in addition to operating and managing patients in UHW.
The current vascular surgeons perform open / endovascular aneurysm treatments, carotid surgery and lower limb salvage. We also have a well established endovenous service. The appointee will work within this structure although there are opportunities within the team for personal development.
The job plan includes two theatre sessions per week in the vascular theatre, two outpatient clinics, and a day case list. Participation in endovascular procedures is encouraged and dedicated lists will be allocated when the hybrid theatre is operational.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
