Applied Practitioner (Clinical or Counselling) Psychologist - Band7/8a

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic practitioner psychologist (2.3wte) to complete our team of psychologists working in Community Mental Health Teams.

You will provide a full range of psychological services to persons with complex or enduring psychological distress, and work with the multi-disciplinary team to offer specialist psychological advice, consultation and training.

The posts are managed by the Lead Consultant Psychologist for CMHTs (Dr Tansy Mayfield), and report to the Locality Psychologist. The posts are envisioned as being substantive (between 0.6wte to 1.0wte) and are in our Vale, Hamadryad and Pendine teams where you would be joining established psychology colleagues.

These posts can be offered as a 7/8a developmental post, or as an 8a post for people with appropriate experience. The 8a post is an excellent opportunity for those looking to progress their career, or for established 8as who want to be part of our developing service. We are also keen to hear from newly qualified applicants (and those close to completing their training) as this role can be offered as a 7/8a developmental post: we offer a professional development programme giving you the opportunity to develop the relevant skills and competencies to transition to 8a on successful completion of the programme - usually within 18 months.

Main duties of the job

We have recently remodelled the structure of psychology services in CMHTs giving us a cohesive, well-supported structure with increased staffing. Each team now has an established in-team psychologist and these posts will further enhance provision - it is a rare chance to work with an in-CMHT psychology colleague. We have three locality leads (8b) supporting the psychologists in each locality cluster of CMHTs, and an 8c service lead. Our CMHT psychologists work collaboratively to more flexibly meet the needs of service users - and this also allows greater peer support, and opportunities to develop specialist skills and interests. There are lots of opportunities to be part of our active programme of service development, including established and emerging group interventions. We are developing our skill mix across the service, and there are good in-house opportunities for CPD, including training in Interpersonal Therapy and Open Dialogue Approach. C&V UHB is fortunate to have a number of services focussed on specific issues (for example, Eating Disorders service) and, for people in full-time posts, there may be opportunities to pursue CPD time in these services. We also have good links with our local doctoral training courses (clinical and counselling) and opportunities to provide supervision, research, consultancy and training. It is an exciting time to be part of psychology provision in the Community Mental Health Teams for Cardiff & the Vale of Glamorgan.
