Specialist Speech & Language Therapist

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board

Job summary

Due to internal promotion, an opportunity to join our strong and innovative Stroke Rehabilitation Service team has arisen. Your focus will be on developing specialist skills in order to deliver effective person-centred care to our patients across Cardiff and the Vale. There is a strong ethos of clinical and professional support including monthly journal clubs, clinical peer support and daily wellbeing drop ins. We also have very close links to the wider SLT team offering opportunities for shadowing and CPD in more specialist and tertiary services as well as monthly In-Service Training sessions.

We need an SLT who wants to develop a wide range of skills and knowledge. You must be enthusiastic and confident in your own personal skills. Whilst the role requires post graduate dysphagia qualification, our team is able to support an experienced B5 or B6 in obtaining these skills. We would therefore consider a B5 / B6 developmental post and so welcome applications from Band 5 SLTs who are working towards completion of their NQPs and dysphagia competencies.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of a specialised SLT service to adults following a stroke. The post holder will have close links with SLTs working across the stroke pathway and may need to work flexibly across acute stroke and ESD.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work effectively in collaboration with the full multidisciplinary teams, including other health professionals to promote the development, planning and delivery of intervention programmes and training in the specialist clinical area. The adult SLT service at Cardiff & Vale is a small and friendly service with Clinical Lead SLTs providing robust support and supervision. The post holder will be supported by a B7 SLT and work alongside other B6, B5 and B3 SLT staff. Participation in service projects and audits is encouraged.

Training and support will be provided to facilitate skill development and CPD is positively encouraged. Our team is very mindful of the trust's values of kindness, respect, trust & integrity and personal responsibility and would welcome anyone who is able to demonstrate these values. Don't hesitate - get in touch today!

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
