Job summary
The post holder is the Clinical Director for the Pharmacy and Medicines Management Directorate. They are also the Professional Head of Pharmacy within the Health Board and registered as Superintendent Pharmacist for the Health Board with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
The postholder ensures optimal use of medicines through the effective procurement and distribution of medicines within the UHB. They provide strong and effective medicines management leadership across Clinical Boards to promote safety, reduce unjustified variation and maximise the cost effectiveness of medicines.
They are responsible for providing strategic leadership to the directorate; ensuring service development and modernisation aligns with national strategies, professional agendas and the strategic/ operational objectives of the Health Board.
Also responsible for managing all aspects of Pharmacy and Medicines Management across the localities including primary care, secondary care and community settings.
Superintendent Pharmacist for the Health Board and holder of all licenses (Aseptic manufacture, Investigational medicinal products, non-sterile production, sterile production and Wholesaler dealing) with the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority (MHRA).
Corporately responsible for all aspects of Medicines Management within the Health Board, including the security of medicines, with accountability to the Executive Medical Director for this function.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking an enthusiastic, accomplished and experienced individual for the role of Clinical Director for Pharmacy and Medicines Management. The postholder will lead across an integrated primary and secondary care service as well as the key leadership role across multidisciplinary medicines management.

The successful candidate will be a registered pharmacist, with relevant current and recent practice. The postholder will demonstrate an excellent knowledge of medicines optimisation, safety, legislation and best practice across an integrated health care system, as well as being able to demonstrate exemplary leadership, management and innovation.
They will have outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrate the ability to communicate with a range of colleagues, health care professionals and the public.
