Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Medical Secretary to join the Chronic Pain team based at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

The post holder will provide a comprehensive secretarial service to our Chronic Pain Consultant Anaesthetists, Acute Pain Nurse and Junior Doctors in training. As an experienced Medical Secretary you will have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to work both on your own initiative and as part of a team.

The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent communication skills and an ability to maintain sympathetic and professional conduct when dealing with vulnerable or anxious patients or relatives.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide a comprehensive medical secretarial support to the Chronic Pain Service.

Duties will include digital audio typing, word-processing, maintaining databases, organising Consultant diaries, co-ordinating meetings/conferences, placing requisition orders using the Oracle ordering system, answering the telephone, minute taking, filing, photocopying, scanning and typing of other correspondence relating to health professionals, patients, clients and carers.

The post holder will, at times, be the first point of contact for staff and service users.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
