Job summary
Applications are invited for a 6PA Locum Consultant in Child and Adolescent Learning Disability Psychiatry to work within our Child and Adolescent Learning Disability Services (CALDS and CISS).
Following the repatriation of our LD CAMHS provision, and in line with developments across the Directorate we are expanding our CALD Service with the addition of a number of new roles. CALDS works closely with our Community Paediatric team to ensure that the health needs of our CYP with Learning Disability are met through supported access to appropriate healthcare, health surveillance and support. This role will provide leadership, consultation, assessment and co-management of those with LD and significant mental health difficulties. The successful candidate will work closely with two lead Psychologists; Dr Collins and Dr Karger, to provide direction to the redevelopment of this offer.
The CALDS and CISS teams sit within the Complex Needs and Disabilities Care Group with close links to the Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Care Group. The Directorate has an established commitment to staff development and support to ensure provision of quality intervention and care to children, young people & families to which we aspire. C&V UHB is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a range of clinical services. Academic interest will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's School of Medicine will be expected.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
- Provide medical psychiatric assessment and intervention to patients within Complex Needs and Disability (CN&D) care group. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the Child and Adolescent Learning Disability service.
- Provide joint clinics with paediatric consultant colleagues in the complex care group for patients with learning disability and complex mental health needs.
- Provide medical psychiatric consultation and advice to colleagues in CN&D and EM&H Care group.
- Provide, with Consultant colleagues a service in the speciality to hospitals so designated.
- Have responsibility for the care of patients in your charge in liaison with Consultant colleagues.
- Be responsible for the professional supervision/management, of junior medical/dental staff.
- Participate in and contribute to Clinical Audits
Teaching
- Be responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required.
Research
- Personal clinical research will be encouraged in addition to participating in current programmes.
Management
- Co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services and expect to share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management within your supporting professional activities.
- Ensure that arrangements are in place for adequate staff to be available in relation to the treatment and care of patients.
