Job summary

Cardiff & Vale University Health Board are looking for a Part Time (15 hours) Roman Catholic Chaplain to join the Chaplaincy & Spiritual and Care Department. The successful candidate will provide spiritual and pastoral care, and facilitate religious care, to patients, their relatives and friends, and staff across Cardiff & Vale university Health Board sites.

As a chaplain, you are expected to deliver pastoral, spiritual and religious support as outlined in the NHS Chaplaincy Guidelines and working in line with the UKBHC Code of Conducts for Healthcare Chaplain . This involves listening to and being alongside people of all faiths and beliefs including those of no faith.

You will be joining a well established, friendly and supportive multi faith team who are keen to add an excellent team player with a positive collaborative approach to complex problems. The Spiritual Care service runs 7 days a week with additional on call hours. You will be required to participate in the departments 24/7 emergency on call rota and aim to respond to call outs within one hour.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a part time (15 hours) Roman Catholic Chaplain to join the Chaplaincy & Spiritual and Care Department at Cardiff & Vale University Health Board. However part time appointments would be considered.Providing generic spiritual and emotional care to those patients, relatives or staff members of any belief or faith group when requested.

Provide end of life support to patients and relatives/friends.

Support patients and families during difficult situations.

You would also be part of an out of hours on call system and be expected to be available to respond to emergency call outs within 1 hour when possible.

You would also need to be available for weekend working.

The ability to travel between sites in a timely manner is required for this post. You would be expected to work on the various health board sites but the post will be based at the University Hospital of Wales, Heath Park, Cardiff.

You will be providing direct religious, spiritual and pastoral care to patients, families, and staff in accordance to Standards for Spiritual Care Services in the NHS in Wales.

You will take full responsibility for your role through being a visible presence, visiting patients at the bedside on wards and departments, attending relevant meetings and steering groups.

Support the work of the wider Chaplaincy team.
