Job summary

Health and Care Research Wales (HCRW) is a research infrastructure funded by the Division of Research & Development, Welsh Government. The overarching vision of Health and Care Research Wales is to be internationally recognised for its excellent health and social care research that has a positive impact on the health, wellbeing and prosperity of the people in Wales.

The R&D Research Delivery Team is led by the R&D Director and Senior Management Team to provide support in the delivery of high-quality health research at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. Part of this service includes a NHS research delivery team employed by NHS organisations to support the delivery of high-quality health and social care studies.

An exciting one year fixed term/secondment opportunity has arisen within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board for a dynamic and forward-thinking Research Delivery Manager to oversee a research portfolio , including an early phase research portfolio across two hospital sites. You must have recent experience working in a senior research nurse role within a complex organisation. Advanced communication and interpersonal skills are essential as the role will require working with various departments and staff groups within the UHB.

Main duties of the job

The Research Delivery Manager has overall responsibility for the allocated research delivery team, and the delivery of the commercial and non-commercial research study portfolio across Cardiff and Vale UHB in their area of responsibility, including day to day line management. At the same time, expert leadership and management will be provided for the B7 Lead Research Nurses who have line-management accountability in their areas of responsibility. The post-holder will provide assurance to the senior leadership team that appropriate systems and processes are in place to manage research delivery in line with national guidance and legislation. The post-holder will raise the profile of the Research &Development (R&D) department within CVUHB supporting the development of a culture that enables high quality and impactful research and innovation and participate in all aspects of research study set up and delivery as required.

This post is fixed term for 12 months due to the needs of the service.

  • Registered Nurse / Midwife with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Educated to masters level in clinical research or substantial equivalent experience in relevant discipline
  • Leadership qualification or equivalent experience
  • In depth knowledge of Good Clinical Practice, research Regulations and guidance
  • Evidence of structured professional career development

Desirable

  • Research qualification (PhD, MPhil, MRes)

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience of supporting service users or carers in research involvement
  • Extensive experience of clinical research at practitioner and managerial level
  • Clinical/managerial experience at Band 7 or above with experience of managing a team
  • Experience of managing performance to meet or exceed targets
  • Experience of working with senior medical staff and NHS managers

Desirable

  • Clinical or management experience across a range of NHS services
