Job summary

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Deputy Sister/Nurse Manager to join the Outpatient nursing team at the University Hospital of Wales. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and leadership skills and work closely with the Outpatient Sister to ensure that that there is smooth transition of services to support the University Health Board's recovery plans; furthermore,to support the exciting digital agenda which isprogressing atpace. They will also work closely with the Outpatient's Sister to provide assurance that the team are providing safe, high quality, patient centered care.

As the Outpatient Department facilitates and manages a broad spectrum of specialty clinics, this is an exciting opportunity not only for someone interested in developing leadership skills, but also for developing clinical skills. The department also provides a positive learning experience for Student Nurse placements.

The current department is based at UHW, however there is feasibility of expanding services across University Health Board sites. The post holder may be required to work across all sites. The current working hours are predominantly Monday-Friday however with the transformation of services, weekend and evening working may be required in the future.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

  • Work collaboratively with the Nurse Manager to ensure that standards and quality of care given to patients, together with the environment in which care is delivered, are maintained at a high standard and where necessary improved.
  • Be an effective leader and role model and provide regular direct clinical care, using experience to support the implementation of clinical and non-clinical governance.
  • Work collaboratively with Service Managers to ensure that clinic space is fully utilised and Directorates are supported to facilitate additional and permanent clinical activity.
  • Record and report incidents/concerns in accordance with UHB policies and assist in any investigations as required.
  • Encourage a culture of learning where students receive quality clinical placements supported by mentorship, teaching and support from registered nurses.
  • Involvement in a programme for performance management that ensures all staff have a yearly appraisal and a personal development plan.
  • Ensure all qualified staff maintain their professional registration with the NMC and to support staff to meet NMC revalidation requirements.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection process in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.
