An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within a service aimed at enhancing care for individuals whose difficulties have attracted the diagnosis of Personality Disorder. We are looking to recruit a clinician with a keen interest in trauma informed working and with the enthusiasm and passion to promote compassionate, needs led care for a population that remain vulnerable to experiencing stigma and rejection.
The Cynnwys team are a warm, supportive team where curiosity is encouraged and collaborative working is valued. Supervision and continuing professional development are viewed as essential to the role and the successful applicant will receive ongoing support to develop the highly specialist skills required for the post, including specialist skills in formulation, evidence based therapeutic interventions and in delivering consultation and advice to other disciplines.
This is an exciting time for the Cynnwys service as we look to support the development of a more psychologically informed approach for individuals with complex emotional needs across Cardiff and Vale.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve assisting inpatient and community teams in formulating and responding to complex, high risk presentations and in engaging more effectively with individuals who present with significant emotional and interpersonal difficulties.
Feelings of inadequacy and hopelessness are recognised as common responses to delivering care to individuals with this pattern of difficulties and a key aspect of the role will involve supporting staff teams to reflect on their own behavioural and emotional responses to engaging with the service user, including facilitating reflective spaces to foster hope and professional curiosity. A sound knowledge of key literature in relation to individuals who receive a diagnosis of Borderline/Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder is essential to the role.
The role will include contributing to the delivery of a package of staff training for roll out across the Health Board. The individual will also be expected to represent the service at multi-disciplinary and multi-agency meetings and the applicant should be confident to convey complex psychological information in a way that is accessible to professionals, service users and their families.
The team has a well-established Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Program and the successful applicant will be supported to develop their competency in this specialist therapy.
