Job summary

Applications are invited for two full-time Locum Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeons with a special interest in Knee Surgery to work across the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. These locum posts are available for a period of 12 months.

University Hospital of Wales is the first Major Trauma Centre to launch within Wales. The Major Trauma Centre is part of an inclusive and collaborative South West and Mid Wales Network spanning six Health Board areas.

Main duties of the job

The appointees will be part of a team of 12 Orthopaedic Surgeons dealing with general trauma patients working in tandem with six dedicated Major Trauma Orthopaedic Consultants. Applicants should preferably have experience of dealing with all aspects of orthopaedic trauma.

Day case and in-patient surgery cases are delivered at University Hospital Llandough. There is a commitment to participate in a 1 in 12 weekend trauma rota covering University Hospital of Wales and a 1 in 4 week-day rota within a 4-person trauma team

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

Although these posts are full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should be on the Specialist Register for Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary for this post is £94,638 per annum.

Applicants must ensure they provide the names and contact details of referees covering at least the last three years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
