Job summary
Cardiff & Vale UHB and the Child Development & Health Psychology Service are delighted to welcome a Band 7 HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical or Counselling) to the Paediatric Health Psychology Team based in the Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales.
The post holder will work in General Paediatric Health Psychology (0.8 WTE) and the Paediatric Metabolic Service (0.2 WTE). The applicant will be a highly valued member of the department where we encourage collegial working and actively promote a culture where open dialogue about improving inclusion and diversity for both service users and staff is welcomed and celebrated.
You must hold a Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent), and be an HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical or Counselling Psychologist). Final year trainee clinical or counselling psychologists soon to complete training are strongly encouraged to apply. Knowledge of, and a demonstrable interest in, applying psychology in medical settings is recommended. The role involves delivering assessment, formulation, consultation and evidence-based interventions to support the psychological wellbeing of children and young people with chronic health conditions.
Main duties of the job
We support children, young people (up to 18 years of age) and their families to manage health related psychological distress, understand their health condition, and make sense of past experiences, to develop a coherent health narrative. The team is passionate about challenging power differentials to ensure that the voice of children and young people are heard.
Building and maintaining positive relationships is at the heart of the department and the team meet regularly to support one another, discuss cases, share good practice and collaborate on service development projects; we also work closely with our colleagues within community services and value our relationships with them. There are also opportunities to contribute to service improvement initiatives, research, co-facilitate teaching on DClinPsy training courses, and offer training to other health professionals within the Health Board.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
