An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialty Doctor to join our Liaison Psychiatry for Older People (LPOP) and Young Onset Dementia (YOD) teams within Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) on a 50/50 split basis.
Main duties of the job
Liaison Psychiatry for Older People :The post-holder will work closely with the Consultant Psychiatrist for LPOP & with the LPOP MDT. The post will be aimed at providing planned & urgent assessments & reviews to District General Hospital in patients with co-morbid acute mental health needs in medicine, surgery & other services (not including Accident & Emergency or Medical Emergency Assessment Unit). The post holder will be across four hospital sites; Barry , St David's, University Hospital Wales & University Hospital Llandough.
Young Onset Dementia Service :Cardiff & Vale Young Onset Dementia Service is a post Primary Progressive Dementia diagnosis Service , who work primarily with patients & the families of patients aged under 65 diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease & variants, Frontal temporal dementia, Vascular dementia, Mixed dementia & Lewy Body dementia/Parkinson's dementia.
The post-holder will be based in the Young Onset Dementia Cariad Centre in Barry Hospital & will work in the community & inpatient settings. The work will consist of assessments of emergency & routine psychiatric patients, together with ongoing care under the supervision of the Consultant. Duties will involve a spectrum of activities including history taking, assessment of mental states, electronic record keeping, preparation of discharge summaries & written communication with GPs following outpatient clinics & domiciliary visits.

The post holder will exercise an intermediate level of clinical responsibility as delegated by the Consultant to whom he/she is responsible.
The post-holder will work closely with a number of professionals in the team including CPNs, Dementia Care Advisor, Dietician, SLT, OT, Physiotherapist, Psychologist and Family Support Workers. The post-holder will regularly participate and contribute to weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings.
This is a full time 10 session appointment on a fixed term basis for one year initially.
