Job summary
An exciting opportunity has opened for an experienced paediatric specialist speech and language therapist in the assessment and provision of high tech AAC. The successful candidate will join an established friendly and caring multi-disciplinary team providing high tech Electronic Assistive Technology (EAT) to the population of Wales.
You will be supporting children and young people with speech, language and communication needs, and will bring a wealth of experience in the general field of AAC. In particular the successful candidate will bring passion, insight, knowledge and experience of AAC to this critical role and enjoying working with technology.
Additional training in the use of all devices and techniques will be provided. With regard to flexible working, the service works in a very flexible manner with home working supported wherever required. Travel throughout south Wales will be a necessary part of the role for which full expenses will be paid or a pool car provided.
The successful candidate would be encouraged to continually expand their knowledge of high tech AAC via training programmes, attendance at conferences, and involvement in research. Supervision and support will be provided by the experienced clinical team.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake assessment of patients with acquired and progressive neurological conditions throughout south Wales and provide high tech AAC systems within the review process.
The post holder will visit patients in their own domiciles, educational or health settings or where they will undertake their clinical duties.
The post holder will use their advanced problem solving skills to match correctly AAC devices to significant communication impairment and carry out training to patients, carers and other stakeholders to ensure successful use of AAC devices.
The post holder will undertake research and development in projects relevant to the EAT Service.
The post holder will bring their considerable knowledge and experience of AAC to the benefit of their caseload and will act as a clinical resource to the wider service.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
