Salaried GP in Rapid Diagnosis Clinic
This job is now closed
Job summary
We are delighted to advertise for a Salaried General Practitioner to join our team within the new Cardiff and Vale UHB Rapid Diagnosis Clinic (RDC). This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new and innovative approach to early cancer diagnosis. The RDC will provide a single point of access for those patients who do not fit urgent suspected cancer pathway criteria but have non-specific 'vague' symptoms that could indicate cancer. The RDC aims to speed up diagnosis for this typically hard to diagnose group of patients to improve their care and clinical outcome.
Main duties of the job
The role will include vetting referrals (with an option to do this remotely) then reviewing patients in 1 clinic per week. Patients will be seen face to face for a history and examination, followed by an MDT with other members of the RDC multidisciplinary team. Prior to arrival at the clinic patients will have had a set of investigations including blood tests and a CT thorax abdomen and pelvis. At the MDT the findings from clinic and the investigations will be discussed to come to a diagnosis if possible or decide the next step in management. Any onward referrals to other specialities would be made by the clinic GP, the clinic GP would also provide a letter summarising the results and diagnosis to the patients usual GP.
The GP will be part of a team who will be offering a holistic multidisciplinary approach, with support from a Clinical Nurse Specialist, a HealthCare Support Worker, a Physician and a Radiologist, each case will be discussed in a multidisciplinary meeting before a diagnosis is decided.
We are offering a long-term position with the UHB, however would consider having a bank of GPs who are able to commit to regular sessions.
