Job summary

We are looking for a regional Physician Associate (PA) Workforce Lead, to work with regional partners, Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) and employers to support PA and Anaethesia Associate (AA) roles in elective surgery as part of the North Wests response to Covid recovery.

We are looking for a highly motivated PA with excellent understanding of current workforce challenges and solutions. Working closely with the Regional Head of AHPs, North West PA Workforce Lead and HEE North West senior leadership team, this is an important opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of policy priorities for elective recovery and gain experience of strategic working within HEE.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for delivery of an assigned portfolio focusing on growing the physician associate (PA) and anaesthesia associate (AA) workforce in elective surgery (pre-op, theatre, and post-operative recovery) in the region to support COVID recovery:

  • Support HEE, NHSE&I and stakeholders to scope the current PA and AA surgical workforce.
  • Provide HEE and stakeholders guidance to understand and develop PAs and AAs roles in surgical pathways.
  • Indentify exemplar services across the region and nationally.
  • Advise employers on pre and post qualification training, education and exposure requirements to utilise PAs and AAs at the top of their licence.
  • Develop case studies and resources to highlight impact of PA and AA current roles.

This role is ideal for clinicians who are interested in developing their leadership, strategic, communication and team working skills.

Salary Progression

Applicants will commence at the bottom of Band 8a with a full-time starting salary of £45,753, with a pay step increase after 5 years service. These salaries are offered in accordance with NHS Terms and Conditions and the HEE Pay Progression Policy and are subject to annual cost of living review.

Secondments

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to effective present to a wide range of audiences using different mediums

  • One year's post-qualification experience in practice
  • Experience of co-ordinating projects in complex and challenging environments
  • Experience of negotiating with and influencing senior managers, project leads and staff at all levels of seniority
