Main duties of the job

The Portfolio Management Directorate (PMD) delivers projects and programmes within the NHSBSA change portfolio. The Programme and Project Manager role is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of projects within the portfolio and fulfilling the line management of project professionals.

The role will have responsibility for the line management of a number of project professionals within the PMD. This involves all elements of the corporate performance management approach covering appraisals, performance, development and wellbeing. It is anticipated line management activities and responsibilities will account for approximately 50% of the role, and project assignments size, scale and complexity will reflect this to prioritise the consistency of the line management approach and support. This role does not cover the resource management and allocation of the direct reports. The role will manage projects in accordance with NHSBSA's Project Management Framework, and lead project teams with both internal and external stakeholders. The role will manage projects of varying size, scale and complexity in accordance with the Project Management Framework.

The role will be responsible for all elements of programme / project management, including budgets and forecasting resource needs. The role will plan and guide teams through the required internal and external assurance and approval processes.

  • Line manage, coach and mentor project delivery and change management professionals roles at Bands 4, 5, 6 and 7.
  • Appraisal and performance management of team in line with NHSBSA policies and core competencies including regular 1:1s).
  • Identify and support talent within the team to develop individuals careersagainst professional competency frameworks via coaching and mentoring and supportingpersonal development plans.
