Job summary
An exciting opportunity to join the Prescription Scanning Team in the Northeast Processing Centre of the NHSBSA as a Mailroom Assistant. You will be responsible for general post duties, including the receipt and dispatch of items. The role is permanent (subject to a successful completion of a 6-month probationary period) and will be based in Bridge House. Working hours will be 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday between the hours of 6am-6pm (occasional Saturday's may be required) with the working pattern to be discussed at interview.
Note: In line with our long-term business strategy regarding prescription scanning, the role may be relocated to Greenfinch Way, Newburn Riverside, Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal, organisational and communication skills with the ability to liaise with appropriate internal and external stakeholders. You will need to have a keen eye for detail and be a strong team player. To be successful in this role, you must be self-motivated and have a flexible approach to work. Full training will be provided for this role, although experience of following instructions and procedures would be helpful.

In this role, you are accountable for:
- The receipt and opening of items and accurate maintenance of any associated records.
- To load and label prescription trolleys, racks, trays and to keep same in an orderly manner.
- To clearly label and load all equipment used for the storage of items and maintain Stores in an orderly manner at all times.
- The movement of prescriptions and other items as instructed.
- To efficiently retrieve, transport or dispatch items to the correct destination, internal or external, which may include physically loading and unloading items on to or from a vehicle.
- To ensure that items for external dispatch are addressed clearly and accurately and that any associated documentation is completed.
- Ensure that items for disposal or salvage, including confidential waste, are regularly removed from the working area and dealt with accordingly. This may include physically loading items on to a vehicle.
- Provide an internal and external messenger service e.g. movement of items to and from Teams, between floors, completing transactions at a bank or Post Office as instructed.
- Assist with the induction of, and demonstrate own activities to, new staff.
- Performs other duties commensurate with pay band and experience.
