Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Principal Business Analyst to support a range of programmes and projects within the NHSBSA Portfolio aimed at making savings for the wider NHS, as well as supporting our own strategic ambitions.

We are looking for someone with extensive business analysis experience, who is collaborative, energetic, has a strong work ethic and professional pride in business analysis with an eye for detail, the ability to handle complex information and translate into clear outputs.

You'll work with a team of business analysts to conduct full business analysis; reporting on the business impact and defining development requirements to meet the identified business changes. You'll be responsible for defining the business processes, systems and services vital to implementation of the required business changes.

You will be part of a team of Principal Business Analysts using your experience to contribute towards advancing the Business Analyst community through sharing of best practice, learning and collaboration.

Main duties of the job

  • Interpreting and proposing changes across a range of service streams.
  • Analysing the impact of new policies, initiatives and business opportunities against ourorganisational strategicobjectives.
  • Development of project business cases to evidence investment decisions.
  • Definition of user stories and management of backlogs.
  • Reporting in detail on the business impact and the development requirements required to meet the identified business changes.
  • Understanding the User experience of services and ensuring this informs service/digital developments.
  • Investigating and defining the business processes, systems and services vital to the successful implementation of the required business changes and the delivery of agreed outcomes/value.
  • Ability to plan releases to deliver value early.
  • Working on projects delivered via waterfall and Agile methodology.
  • Leading a team of business analyst professionals.
  • Coaching other business analyst professionals.
  • Being able to contribute to the development of others in the business analysis community.

Job responsibilities

In this role, you are accountable for:

  • Strategic Analysis - Maintaining a focus on external and internal environments such as the NHS/Public sector/wider societies trends and NHSBSA business developments to ensure alignment. Fostering an in depth understanding of the NHSBSAs strategic goals and context and sharing these with other business analysts
  • Requirement gathering Coordinate requirement activities, their validation and sign-off ensuring that the needs of the key stakeholders are articulated determining the need and value of performing the activity based on the context
  • Process modelling Determine requirement for and develop, co-ordinate and agree sign-off of the As-Is and To-Be business process work
  • Gap Analysis Coordinate and lead on the evaluation of requirements against the present state (where we are) & the target state (where we want to be) and identify opportunities to develop successful business requirements as well as cultivate stakeholder relationships needed to make the transition.
  • Impact Analysis Lead on ensuring that the potential consequences of a change are correctly identified that stakeholders have been identified and are part of the overall process and that benefits have been collated in response to the impact analysis. Assessing the impact of change on business systems and processes, formulating options, assessing feasibility, making recommendations and presenting findings to a variety of senior stakeholders
  • Benefit Analysis Co-ordinate and lead on the development of project business cases and ensuring that identified benefits analysis is developed and disseminated to project sponsors, senior managers and project stakeholders where applicable. Identification and modelling of costs, benefits and savings with a focus on the delivery of value early to the business
  • Stakeholder management and engagement Coordinate Stakeholder analysis and comms with project and Comms team and ensure that stakeholder management is an ongoing process. Building credibility through managing upwards and becoming a trusted advisor to the Heads of Service and SROs including participating in senior project governance meetings in supporting the delivery of change. Confidently and effectively presenting information to small and large groups of stakeholders (from senior managers to members of the public)
  • Facilitation Liaise with business owners, business architects, business users, change and technical teams to identify solutions
  • System Analysis Lead on the work of systems analysis to ensure business needs are translated into solutions against identified timelines, & work with technical leads to ensure business needs are translated into the technical solutions.
  • Assurance and Quality Apply recognised methodologies; audit test and quality gates; review deliverables from team & releases. Ensuring work is undertaken to agreed standards using appropriate frameworks and leading peer/learning/quality reviews associated with key deliverables
  • Traceability Manage the delivery of change against a fully auditable process
  • Business Improvement Lead on the work with Business Improvement teams on business readiness and the identification of BAU enhancements and their solutions to ensure that defined project benefits are delivered
  • Business Solution Design Coordinate change with policy and strategy to ensure business systems, workflows and processes contribute to target operating model
  • Delivery Products Tools and Documentation Coordinate development and application of: frameworks; application of delivery methodologies; operating model/target operating model; functional specifications; user cases; user stories; UAT plans and strategy; entry/exit and /or no/no go criteria
