Job summary

We are excited to be recruiting a Clinical Governance Lead to join our Professional and Clinical Services function, working closely with the Head of Professional and Clinical Services to drive clinical governance activity and awareness across NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA).

This is a new role so will be an excellent opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic clinical governance professional to drive the further development and embedding of NHSBSA's approach to professional clinical governance and assurance, as well as raising awareness and understanding of clinical governance in NHSBSA and its importance in the organisation and the wider health and care system. Main duties of the job

To drive the further development and embedding of NHSBSA's approach to professional clinical governance and assurance, ensuring that it is proportionate and appropriate to NHSBSA and the services delivered.

Reporting to the Head of Professional & Clinical Services, you will be responsible for driving the further development of robust professional clinical governance for NHSBSA. This will include ensuring there is a robust programme of clinical governance and assurance activity and reporting supported by the necessary policies, processes and training to support effective implementation and embedding of professional clinical governance and assurance in the organisation and extending to our third party clinical suppliers. In addition, you will play a key role within the organisation, in conjunction with other leaders from across the NHSBSA professional spectrum, driving and overseeing system-wide learning and improvement to inform both short-term and longer-term organisation plans.

As the Clinical Governance Lead you will be a key member of the NHSBSA Clinical Network, a network of registered healthcare professionals from across the organisation, with the purpose of ensuring that professional clinical expertise in the organisation is fully leveraged for the benefit of NHSBSA, business partners, the health and care system and wider populations.

In this role, you are accountable for:

  1. In collaboration with the Head of Professional & Clinical Services, developing and implementing effective policies, processes and reporting to meet the requirements of the NHSBSA Clinical Governance framework and any applicable standards, policies, guidance and regulations to ensure robust and effective professional clinical governance that is proportionate and appropriate to NHSBSA and the services it delivers.
  2. Designing and delivering professional clinical governance assurance and audit activities to monitor and assure professional clinical governance across internal professional clinical teams and third-party clinical partners and providers demonstrating appropriate budgetary and resourcing considerations in both the design and delivery of the audit and any resulting recommendations.
  3. Working with professional clinical teams to develop and implement activities to ensure that appropriate clinical governance activity can be demonstrated across all domains of the NHSBSA Model of Clinical Governance.
  4. Managing and co-ordinating all aspects of Clinical Governance across NHSBSA, ensuring integration of Clinical Governance and the clinical governance framework with the overarching corporate governance and risk management frameworks in NHSBSA.
  5. Building a strong framework of assurance and reporting for the organisation providing visibility and assurance of clinical governance in NHSBSA and across our third party clinical partners and suppliers to the Leadership Team, the Audit & Risk Committee and Board.
  6. Providing expert clinical governance advice and guidance about current clinical governance good practice, quality, safety and service development to internal and external stakeholders ensuring that learning and change occurs.
  7. Keeping up to date with Professional & Clinical Governance requirements and evidence, ensuring NHSBSA remains up-to-date in its approach.
  8. Developing and overseeing a quality assurance and audit programme across the internal clinical teams in NHSBSA.
  9. Working with Commercial colleagues, developing a programme of professional clinical governance audit, assurance and reporting across NHSBSAs third party clinical partners and suppliers and using outputs from these clinical governance assurance activities to inform third party contract service provision reviews.

  13. Supporting the Caldicott Guardian Group and its functions including designing activities and engagement to promote understanding of the group and Caldicott principles across the wider organisation through training and communications.
  14. Working across the organisation, building strong professional working relationships with key areas of the business and internal stakeholders including Primary Care Services, Commercial and Governance and Risk teams.
  15. Building effective professional relationships and networks with external stakeholders to ensure appropriate development of clinical governance in NHSBSA and alignment with the wider health and care system, including joining external clinical governance meetings and networks.
