If you are highly motivated, have significant recent practical experience with the administration and supporting of PostgreSQL databases, preferably within an AWS environment, then you have what this role needs! You will be working alongside the team of database engineers and platform engineers to ensure the estate of PostgreSQL databases used across the organization are delivered and support to a high standard. You will be responsible for delivering, supporting, and continually enhancing the PostgreSQL solutions within the AWS estate which form an integral part of the provision of NHSBSA services. You will need to be driven, innovative and work with a high degree of autonomy.

Main duties of the job
Perform a comprehensive set of database administrative activities in relation to the PostgreSQL databases within AWS (including RDS instances) using pgAdmin
Design, create support, and maintain PostgreSQL databases across development, testing and production environments. Perform on-going performance tuning of the PostgreSQL databases to ensure availability and scalability of services Configure and manage monitoring of the PostgreSQL databases Analysis of highly complex issues and troubleshooting of problems related to the PostgreSQL databases Perform capacity and scalability planning across the PostgreSQL estate Evaluate releases of PostgreSQL database software and tools, including third party and open-source products, to ensure that the NHSBSA is running products that are most appropriate to the business needs. Plan and perform PostgreSQL database software upgrades (potentially out of hours) ensuring minimal impact to the business. Provide technical support and training for more junior platform colleagues and non-platform staff in the use of PostgreSQL databases Use initiative to make decisions on complex technical matters and make recommendations to influence key decisions Examine, recommend, and implement changes to procedures, policies and services to improve customer service Produce time and resource estimates to contribute to the planning process
