Main duties of the job

Play a pivotal role in the development and execution of our business strategy. The NHSBSA produces vast amounts of data from the billions of transactions it performs every year across £36 billion of NHS activity; leveraging the value of this data is fundamental for the success of our strategy.

Use your Data Architecture experience in Data Warehouse environments to ensure we can deliver at pace and with confidence in the security, accuracy, and performance of our Enterprise Data Warehouse and associated technologies.

Ensure operational aspects of the Enterprise Data Warehouse are fulfilled alongside developing highly complex solutions to enable sourcing, extracting, transforming, loading, and providing access for data within the NHSBSA's data warehouse.

Use your expertise to provide highly complex data to drive the development of Business Intelligence and Insight.

Work with data experts from partner organisation to ensure that we are using best practice and the latest techniques in how we handle data.

Job purpose:

As the Data Warehouse Architect, you will be responsible for setting the direction and providing leadership to the data warehouse, data management, nosiness intelligence and data interoperability. You will promote innovation and champion the development of a culture that realizes the value of enterprise data warehouse across the NHS/NHSBSA. Monitoring best practice in data acquisition, process workflows, information requirements and standards and lead the data warehouse of best practice within the organisation.

As a key member in the architecture community, you will work closely and alongside the Enterprise Data Architect of the NHSBSA to ensure that the data warehouse is designed in keeping with the overall enterprise data architecture. You will understand the business impact of changes and recommend solutions to support the strategic aims of the Data Warehouse.

You will provide expertise and guidance in business intelligence and data warehouse, working collaboratively with key stakeholders in the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of BI systems and services.

The post holder will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Enterprise Data Warehouse, architecting conformed dimensions and ensuring best-practices are documented, communicated, understood and complied with in all design, development and deployment activities, promoting the wider use of business intelligence to drive change and supporting the organizations / our clients strategic aims and taking the lead role in developing, monitoring and assuring technical skills across the team.

In this role, you are accountable for:

  1. Act as technical, strategic, and architectural lead for the team responsible for building and developing the NHSBSAs data warehouse, providing expertise in acquiring and managing data for business systems in accordance with the strategy defined by the Enterprise Data Architect.
  2. Lead the development of architectural principles and ensure compliance with governance activities associated with the organisations enterprise architecture for the Data Warehouse.
  3. A key member of the Data Warehouse team, helping to formulate the NHSBSA Data strategy for the Data Warehouse, support the resolution of conflicting priorities and influence the portfolio of skills and business improvement initiatives.
  4. Deliver aspects of the Business Intelligence data strategy for the NHSBSA: responsible for the strategic development of the skill set, delivery of service innovation and implementation of new ways of working to drive improved data management.
  5. Lead individual for the development of Data Warehouse services across the NHSBSA to enable the implementation of effective Business Intelligence.
  6. Responsible for the analysis of highly complex and sensitive data within the Data Warehouse and the investigation of new data sources.
  7. Ensure Data Warehouse security is designed, developed, implemented, and maintained in line with recognised best practice.
  8. Lead architect and educator for the warehouse team, coordinating and delivering training as required to enable to the team to meet service delivery requirements
  9. Lead the monitoring and optimisation of the performance of the Data Warehouse systems and the accuracy of the reported data. Oversee the disaster recovery environment.
  10. Identify and implement methodologies to ensure the NHSBSAs policies for acquisition and analysis of highly sensitive data (person identifiable and commercial) are implemented effectively in the Data Warehouse. Provide expertise for the NHSBSA in methods for anonymization / pseudonymization of data.
  11. Responsibility for efficient functioning of the Data Warehouse and BI, and ensuring that security protections are appropriate and up to date.
  12. Line manage, motivate and lead Data Warehouse Developers to capture business data needs quickly and effectively with the aim of increasing individuals contributions through staff engagement.
  13. Undertake recruitment and selection in line with organisational processes and participate in the implementation and delivery of initiatives to secure suitable resources, increase skills levels and develop talent pools to meet the changing needs of the business landscape.
  14. Seeking, providing and taking feedback to support and encourage teams and individuals to develop thinking and independently work through issues, to reach solutions-based outcomes.
