Main duties of the job

This would include, for relevant individual technologies, translating NICE committee conclusions on clinical and cost-effectiveness into commercially related advice that supports commercial discussions between NHS England and technology developers.

You will provide leadership on commercially related technical issues, reviewing and quality assuring the work of the technical analysts whose line management you will be responsible for.

You will also support the Associate Director, Commercial Liaison, in influencing and developing NICEs response to internal and external policy changes relating to technology pricing.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Knowledge of financial and demographic modelling, probability and statistics, economics, risk management, pricing uncertainty

  • Experience of supporting the NHS and/or technology developers in understanding the commercial risks and opportunities associated with a technology.

  • Experience in using technical evaluation in policy formulation and decision making.

  • Doctorate and further specialist training or equivalent level of knowledge acquired through experience and further training/development.

The Commercial Liaison Team (CLT) provides an interface between NICE guidance production and the NHS England Medicines Value and Access Directorate to ensure that:

  • the value judgements made by NICE committees in the development of guidance are effectively translated and incorporated into those used in related commercial engagements led by NHS England;
  • NHS England are supported in understanding the impact of these judgements on the commercial arrangements they are developing with manufacturers;
  • commercial arrangements are assessed to ensure they do not introduce unduly complex monitoring, disproportionate additional costs, burden and bureaucracy to the NHS;
  • there is alignment between NHS England and NICE guidance production processes that supports timely access for patients to cost-effective and affordable technologies.
