Project Manager

The closing date is 01 June 2025

Job summary

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) exists to help improve the quality, sustainability and productivity of health and social care in England. We have an international reputation for our approach to producing guidance and information on effective practice that supports better decisions and helps the health and care system to prioritise its investment. We are one of the world leaders in the work that we do!

We are recruiting for one Project Manager role on a fixed-term basis until December 2026 to join the Business Management Unit within Medicines Evaluation. This is a new role.

Internal applicants wishing to consider the Project Manager role as a secondment opportunity should seek approval from their line manager prior to applying. Secondments from outside the organisation from external applicants are also welcome.

Main duties of the job

The regulatory and adoption environment in which NICE operates is changing and NICE needs to develop more flexible methods and processes for appraising medicines. The Medicines Evaluation programme also needs to introduce efficiencies in the way it operates. Several change and improvement projects are happening within the directorate and NICE to support these ambitions. The project manager is responsible for planning and managing all phases of Medicines Evaluation change projects. The project manager will play a vital role in the delivery of activities, providing much needed delivery leadership to key senior stakeholders and wider project teams daily.

This role will be responsible for several business change activities including:

  • Working alongside colleagues across the organisation on a portfolio of projects that support the development and running of the Medicines Evaluation programme
  • Working alongside the Operations Manager, Associate Director and other key project leads to develop processes, review operational procedures, identify areas for improvement and oversee the implementation of agreed changes
  • Leading on ad-hoc centre business projects within the Business Management Unit alongside a focus of Medicines Evaluation and NICE change/ transformation activities

Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to read the job description and FAQs document before reaching out to the hiring manager with further questions.

About us

The Medicines Evaluation team at NICE advises the NHS and patients on the clinical and cost effectiveness of the technologies reviewed and their optimal position in clinical practice. We only review a subset of the total number of new technologies offered to the NHS and we apply selection criteria to decide which to appraise. Though technology appraisals recommendations are covered by a funding requirement from the Secretary of State, our recommendations are not instructions to practitioners, but they are expected to take them into account and patients' access to what we recommend is guaranteed in the NHS Constitution. Our advice, though occasionally controversial, is valued by the NHS and we have evidence (through our web-based database) of their significant impact.

Benefits we offer include:

Generous NHS Pension - Secure your future with one of the most rewarding pension schemes in the UK.Flexible Working - Enjoy a healthy work-life balance with options like remote working, compressed hours and flexible start/finish times.Exclusive Discounts - Save on shopping, dining and more with a Blue Light Card.Time to Recharge - Start with 27 days' annual leave plus Bank Holidays.Inclusive Staff Networks - Join supportive communities like Women in NICE, Race Equality Network, Disability Advocacy and more - we celebrate diversity.Tailored Development - Grow your career with personalised learning and development opportunities.
