Job summary

The Strategy, Policy and International Team supports NICE's Executive Team to define NICE's strategy, build and execute effective plans to implement it, and adapt it to changing circumstances. We ground our work in an understanding of the needs of the health system and the capacity of NICE to meet those needs, and we are responsible for defining and managing significant change across the organisation.

The Strategy Team leads strategy development on behalf of NICE, development of cross-cutting policy, and includes the new enhanced horizon scanning function comprising technology leads and strategy colleagues

This is an exciting opportunity to join the new horizon scanning team as one of the first members establishing an important function for NICE and the wider health and care system. The new role will provide expert knowledge and skills to the horizon scanning programme in the Strategy, Policy and International Directorate.

Main duties of the job

The focus is to review a range of horizon scanning resources to provide intelligence for NICE and our partners about health technologies which may require further analysis to enable timely guidance production. This requires reviewing market information and other sources of intelligence and related innovations to identify those which may have significant implications.

-Bringing together additional external sources along with your own expertise to provide advice about the implications of new foundational innovations or specific technologies within the health and care landscape. This includes actively identifying national and international developments that could impact activities.-Ongoing engagement colleagues in other teams in NICE: CHTE health tech and Science, Evidence and Analytics to share emerging insights about identified pipeline technologies and implications.

-Contributing to reports about the technologies about which NICE expects to produce guidance in future.

-Working collaboratively with colleagues in NHS England and other national bodies to share intelligence.

-Training and supporting NICE staff involved in actions arising from and delivery of horizon scanning outputs

The post holder will also be expected to help develop effective processes and ways of working for NICE-wide horizon scanning, and to work with the AD Strategy and wider team to review and improve ways of working both within the team and with external partners

About us

TheStrategy Unit is responsible for developing cross-cutting strategy and policy positions on behalf of NICE, sitting within the Strategy, Policy and International Team. The team supports NICE's Executive Team to define NICE's strategy, build and execute effective plans to implement it, and adapt it to changing circumstances.

The team includes NICE's new enhanced horizon scanning function, a growing area focused on identifying innovations 2-5 years ahead of NICE actions to ensure that the organisation and wider health and care system are prepared to appraise and adopt relevant technologies and ways of working.

The horizon scanning function will be a team of four, with two senior leads (one of which is this post, plus another focused on medicines) and two additional posts, reporting to the Associate Director of Strategy. The function sits in the new Strategy, Policy and International Directorate, which provides efficient and effective organisation and delivery of policy analysis and development, strategic planning and strategy development across NICE.
