Job summary

Are you a proactive and enthusiastic individual with experience in health economics and outcomes research, health technology assessment, guideline development, or epidemiology? Do you want to play a key role in managing a portfolio of science policy and methods research projects that have a major impact on how NICE works?

We have a vacancy for a Senior Scientific Adviser in NICE's Science Policy and Research team. Reporting to the Associate Director, the post holder will provide technical leadership to the portfolio of HTA Lab projects.

The Science Evidence and Analytics (SEA) Directorate is responsible for ensuring that NICE uses the best available evidence in its guidance to support decision makers across health and care. Although the Science Policy and Research (SP&R) Programme sits within the SEA Directorate, our remit is to support the whole organisation. The SP&R programme undertakes research and works with and influences external policy partners on issues related to the work of NICE. The team works to develop methods for health technology assessment and guideline development, and encourages partners to commission research relevant to our research priority areas.

Interviews are currently planned for 24th April.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Scientific Adviser would be responsible for a range of activities, including:

  1. Overseeing the portfolio of HTA Lab projects, including providing technical leadership.
  2. Contributing to the development of Institute responses to science policy issues. Typically, a policy response is needed when new scientific developments, or new policy decisions by government or regulators, mean that NICE's policies or methods require updating.
  3. Working with teams across NICE Institute to prioritise and co-ordinate science policy and research activities, including supporting updates of methods manuals.
  4. Managing NICE's delivery to multi-stakeholder collaborative projects under the supervision of the Associate Director.
  5. Providing senior technical expertise and input relating to the delivery of science policy and methods research projects.
  6. Developing proposals for funding applications in collaboration with partners in the UK and internationally.
  7. Developing relationships with key UK, European and international funders, research councils, policy organisations, academia and industry.
