Job summary

The Head of Public Involvement and Engagement will provide leadership, direction and oversight of NICE's public involvement and strategic engagement programmes. They will manage the Public Involvement and Strategic Engagement teams to ensure that NICE's work is informed by lived experience and feedback from our users and stakeholders.

The post holder will lead the strategic direction of NICE's public involvement and engagement work, through the dynamic implementation and delivery of the new NICE strategic framework for public involvement & engagement and the NICE stakeholder engagement framework.

Success will require effective working with NICE's stakeholders (including its advisory bodies, partner organisations, voluntary and community sector stakeholders, the health and care system, patients, people who use services, their families, carers and the public) to embed valued public involvement and engagement strategies, policy and practice across NICE and the work we do. They will lead and champion innovative work to better engage with people from communities most affected by health inequalities, and embed equality, diversity and inclusion in NICE's work.

The postholder will be to engage with national voluntary and community sector stakeholders at a strategic level to develop partnership working to amplify NICE's reach, so that together we meet our user's needs, get the best care to patients fast and focus on what matters most to people and communities.

Main duties of the job

Contract Type: Permanent - This job can be based in Manchester or London

The postholder will:

  • Lead and hold responsibility for the strategic development, implementation and delivery of NICE's strategic framework, plan and policy for public involvement and engagement
  • Pioneer, lead and plan innovative public involvement and engagement initiatives and approaches for NICE, to ensure that the voices of people who use services are heard and their contribution honoured
  • Lead and evolve a programme of strategic engagement with national organisations and key opinion leaders, aligned to the NICE strategic engagement framework
  • Act as the strategic lead for NICE's engagement with the voluntary and community sector, developing partnerships to amplify NICE's reach
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to NICE's centres and directorates to ensure public involvement and engagement is effective and impactful

About us

The Implementation and Partnerships directorate builds effective partnerships with NICE's users, ensuring their voice and needs are used to drive the implementation and use of our products.

To do this:

  • We develop partnerships with national, regional and local users, generating intelligence to make sure our products are useful, usable, and implementable in the health and care environment.
  • We use data, intelligence and learning on uptake and implementation from our users to drive NICE's activity. This includes focusing on what matters most and ensuring implementation support is responsive and targeted in areas with greatest impact.
  • We ensure that high impact patient and public involvement is embedded and valued across all NICE's programmes.
