Do you want to do meaningful work that makes a genuine difference to society? As an organisation we all collaborate to achieve this same goal through empowering our workforce to do great things!
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for all aspects of the management and delivery of the medicines guidance in the Technology Appraisal and Highly Specialised Technologies work programmes. The programmes run from both the Manchester and London offices.
The role involves overseeing topic selection activities, monitoring the delivery of appraisals and evaluations across two sites, and will involve a high degree of autonomy and cross-site working. The role also involves a high degree of strategic interaction with our sponsor branch at the Department of Health and with national bodies such as NHS England (NHSE), the National Institute for Health Research Health (NIHR) Health Technology Assessment Programme, the Medicines and Health Care Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
Given the high degree of public attention paid to the timeliness of the delivery of the Technology Appraisal and Highly Specialised programmes, and the high public profile of guidance published in these programmes, the role involves working in a highly pressured, volatile and hostile environment.
Please make it clear in the supporting statement how you meet the criteria outlined below
About us
The Centre for Health Technology Evaluation develops guidance on the use of new and existing medicines, treatments and procedures within the NHS.
The Technology Appraisals and Highly Specialised Technologies (TA/HST) programme advises the NHS and patients on the clinical and cost effectiveness of the technologies reviewed and their optimal position in clinical practice. We review a significant proportion of the total number of new technologies offered to the NHS and we apply (jointly, with the Department of Health and Social Care), selection criteria to decide which to appraise.
Though TA/HST recommendations are legally covered by a funding requirement, our recommendations are not instructions to practitioners, but they are expected to take them into account and patients' access to what we recommend is guaranteed in the NHS Constitution. Our advice, though occasionally controversial, is valued by the NHS and we have evidence (through our web-based database) of their significant impact.
