Job summary

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Adviser will be responsible for ensuring the technical quality of the outputs of the Health Technologies Programme and for the management and development of the technical team. They provide technical leadership on topics and methods issues, reviewing and quality assuring the work of HTA analysts and external assessment groups.

Contract type: Full-time, permanent. Based in either Manchester or London

Main duties of the job

Working within the Health Technologies Programme, the HTA Adviser will provide technical leadership on topics and methods issues, reviewing and quality assuring the work of HTA analysts and external assessment groups. You will line manage HTA analysts and with other HTA advisers, be responsible for the training, personal and professional development of new and existing members of staff, and jointly lead the development of high-quality methods and technical practice within the programme.

Advisers will also contribute to programme development, develop effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders, and contribute or lead internal and external projects to further enhance NICE's role in evaluating health technologies. They will work with the directors to manage risk to the programme and organisation, and further develop the working culture of the programme in line with NICE values.

The Centre for Health Technology Evaluation develops guidance on the use of new and existing medicines, medical technologies, treatments and procedures within the NHS.

Under the leadership of the Director for Medical Technology, the Health Technologies Programme assesses non-medicine products: medical devices, digital health, diagnostic technologies and new procedures, and develops guidance and advice on the safety, efficacy, clinical and cost-effective use of these products for the NHS and its social care partners.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex ideas to a range of audiences and to generate trust and confidence in
