About the role
Contract type: Permanent
NICE Scientific Advice provides fee-for-service advice to pharmaceutical companies and manufacturers of medical technologies (devices and diagnostics) who have products in development that may be evaluated by NICE in the future. The advice offered draws on the Institute's experience of using evidence to provide guidance for the NHS. The NICE Scientific Advice Technical Team provides advice to manufacturers on their clinical trial programmes and plans for health economic evaluation to ensure they generate high-quality evidence that is relevant for a NICE evaluation.

Reporting to the Senior Scientific Adviser within the NICE Scientific Advice Technical Team, the Scientific Adviser will be responsible for critically reviewing materials submitted by life sciences companies, writing clear and high-quality scientific advice reports, in addition to liaising with clinical and academic experts, and presenting advice at meetings with companies. The post holder will work on a variety of projects that cover a range of technologies, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, and digital health technologies.
What you will bring to the role:
- A working knowledge of clinical trials, health economics, medical statistics, epidemiology, evidence synthesis, and cost effectiveness modelling
- Understanding of health technology assessment
- Experience in critically appraising health literature, including various designs of clinical studies
- Understanding of the principles of evidence-based healthcare, critical appraisals and the interpretation and synthesis of health care research evidence.
- Thorough attention to detail with a systematic approach to tasks and high standards of accuracy
- A flexible attitude to the working environment and ability to work as part of a team
