Anguilla - Medical Doctor Obstetrician Gynaecologist

The Obstetrician/Gynaecologist (OB/GYN) is a medical doctor responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare to women across all stages of lifefrom adolescence through menopause and beyond.

The role encompasses the management of pregnancy, childbirth, and reproductive health disorders, ensuring the delivery of evidence-based, high-quality, and patient-centered care.

The OB/GYN will provide both inpatient and outpatient clinical services at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, affiliated clinics, and designated community outreach locations. In addition to clinical duties, the OB/GYN will contribute to the development of healthcare policies, protocols, and guidelines to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.

This position involves frequent standing and movement, handling of medical instruments during labour and surgical procedures, and strict adherence to infection control and sterilization standards. Some administrative responsibilities will be required as part of the role, as assigned by the Department of Health Services (DHS) management.

Applicant will be alternating between the Hospital and Polyclinics in Anguilla.

Main duties of the job

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Provide routine medical services in accordance with legal and statutory requirements and for the enhancement of primary, secondary and tertiary levels of health care.
  • Practice medicine with the highest ethical standards, ensuring patient confidentiality, informed consent, and respect for patient autonomy.
  • Provide prenatal care to pregnant women, including monitoring fetal development and maternal health.
  • Manage labour and delivery, ensuring safe childbirth outcomes for both mother and baby.
  • Diagnose and treat disorders of the female reproductive system, such as menstrual disorders, infertility, gynaecological cancers and others.
  • Perform surgical procedures related to the reproductive organs, including hysterectomies, ovarian surgeries, and laparoscopic procedures.
  • Offer preventive care, routine screenings (e.g., Pap smears), and health maintenance for women.
  • Educate patients on reproductive health, family planning options, and preventive measures.

Job responsibilities

KEY DUTIES

  • Admit, conduct patient assessments and discharge inpatients as required.
  • Formulate and prescribe specialized health care regimens for designated patients.
  • Conduct prenatal examinations, ultrasounds, and screenings to monitor fetal development and maternal health.
  • Provide guidance on nutrition, exercise, and prenatal vitamins for expectant mothers.
  • Manage labor, childbirth, and postpartum care, including performing deliveries and addressing any complications.
  • Perform pelvic exams, Pap smears, and other diagnostic tests to assess reproductive health
  • Diagnose and treat gynecological conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
