The hospital provides primary care to a population of around 4,000 people. The service also provides pharmacy, casualty, and imaging in conjunction with the hospitals ward where all admissions are accepted. Each clinical area is supported with a range of professions allied to health, such as speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, laboratory, engineering, administration, and other support services.

If you are a proactive person who is registered with the United Kingdom Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), or equivalent professional registering body, who has experience of working in the NHS, and are looking for a new challenge, and could join our small team and be willing to participate in a 24 hour on-call rota, we would like to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

This position requires a UK or equivalent Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registered nurse who would like to commit to a two-to-four-year contract. You would join our small multi-disciplinary team to providing person centred care to our diverse community.

This role involves, but is not limited to, promoting health to enable members of our society to achieve their optimum health here in the Falkland Islands including provision of holistic care in the hospitals single general ward where all admissions are cared for.

About us

The Health and Social Services Directorate, Falkland Islands provides emergency, primary, secondary and community healthcare as well as social services assistance, support, and advice. Most health services are based at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) which is the Islands only hospital and is based in the capital Stanley. We serve the local community of about 3,700 residents, short-term residents and visitors.

The Falkland Islands are an unique natural environment located in the South Atlantic, 8,000 miles south of the UK mainland, which is a British overseas territory with a full internal self-government. The Islands boasts unspoilt beaches, outstanding wildlife, and stunning landscapes with a good work/life balance. Job responsibilities

  • As a registered nurse provide quality nursing to patients whilst acting in their best interests, promoting health, developing areas of nursing expertise and contributing to the multi-disciplinary team approach to care.
  • Ensure that patient needs are assessed, care is planned and delivered in line with individual plans, continuing evaluation and response is monitored and actions taken in accordance with good nursing care in a compassionate manner maintaining patient dignity and respect.
