The King Edward VII Memorial Hospital is looking for an experienced Sonographer seeking work in a friendly and supportive team which provides excellent care for patients.
The hospital is the principal healthcare facility in the Falkland Islands providing Computed Tomography, Mammography and Plain Radiography. The service adheres to United Kingdom practices and standards, modified to local needs.
Applicants must be registered with the United Kingdoms Health and Care Professions Council (or equivalent body) and have a minimum of two years post qualification experience of scanning including obstetrics, gynaecology and general medical.

Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role include providing and reporting obstetric and general ultrasound scans within agreed departmental protocols and without clinical supervision.

In addition to being supported to practise with a broad scope, clinical staff are encouraged and assisted to develop particular areas of expertise and to undertake service improvement.
The standard working hours being Monday to Friday 8am to 4.30pm; with no on-call requirements. This position requires an experienced Sonographer, on a two to four-year contract. We would welcome applications from obstetric only and midwife sonographers.

The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work without clinical supervision
- Providing ultrasound service to the Falklands community include the MOD, the fishing fleet and visitors
- Follow departmental protocols & use professional judgement as to the requirements of individual cases
- Participate in screening programmes such as AAA screening
- To undertake ultrasound examinations of the required standard for the Antenatal clinic as necessary and provide a written report and plotting foetal growth on personalised charts
- To provide reports on all scans preformed
- Adhere to recognised codes of practise and responsibilities
- Demonstrate continuous professional development
- Attend relevant meetings if required to represent the Ultrasound Department
- Complete all mandatory training for the H&SS Directorate
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness of imaging department
- Laying out of supplies and room preparation for special procedures
- Report to relevant persons all matters, special problems or requirements
- Maintain stock levels
- Participate in QA and audit programmes
- Where performing general scans under clinical direction of medical officer provide a written report
- Knowledge of professional issues relating to Governance, Confidentiality and Professional limitation in the role
