Job summary

As a Safety Engineer, you will join ourClinical Safety Team; the team provides a clinical safety assurance and safety training service, across the digital programmes and services within NHS Englands Transformation Directorate, and to the wider health and social care service in England.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with technical and clinical colleagues to promote and ensure that effective clinical risk management is carried out by both supplier and Health and Social Care organisations. This helps them develop, deploy, and modify health IT systems that assist health and care staff to provide better, safer, patient care.

Please note this is not a Health and Safety role, you will be required to have expertise in safety management in computer-based systems.

We are recruiting into two roles:

Safety Assurance

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • effectively communicating and advising and influencing organisations, resolving conflicts and reporting proactively and effectively.
  • supporting the safety assurance of health IT systems developed for use in the NHS and supporting their subsequent deployment and use.
  • acting as a subject matter expert onsafety management principles and test and assurance approaches, advising internal and external organizations.

Safety Training

In this role you will contribute to:

  • Defining training needs in clinical risk management across the NHS.
  • Developing learning resources to address defined training needs.
  • Delivering clinical risk management training courses, often at customer sites.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of the training portfolio
  • Managing the promotion and administration of our training portfolio.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to Degree level, or equivalent higher education qualification or an equivalent level of experience, ideally supported by a teaching qualification.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Clinical Safety Standards DCB0129 and DCB0160

Experience

  • Proven ability to plan, deliver and improve educational resources ideally in a science or technology subject.
  • Have a strong understanding of risk management principles and techniques.
