Job summary
We are looking for a Policy Manager to lead on and support a wide range
of policy-related work. The post is a maternity cover, 9-month fixed term contract (with a possible 3-month extension).
The Policy Manager will play an active part in the HFEAs Policy Team, based
in the Scientific Policy side of the team, by leading on policy-related work and providing scientific policy advice both
internally and externally as
required. This role is focused primarily on Scientific Policy work but
will also undertake non-scientific Manager-level Policy work. This post reports
to the Scientific Policy Manager and line manages the Scientific Policy
Officer.
The start date is December 2024.
Secondment requests (supported
by the applicants seconding organisation) are welcome for this role.
Main duties of the job
A key part of this role isleading on HFEAs scientific and clinical horizon-scanning function andsupportingthe management of the HFEAS Scientific and Clinical Advances Advisory Committee (SCAAC) including planning meeting agendas and logistics, and drafting and presenting committee papers,so that relevant scientific developments can be anticipated.This role will also lead on anongoing project on the uses of artificial intelligence, automation and robotics in fertility treatment, which involves working closely with colleagues from across the HFEA.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is proactive, can work effectively as part of a team, and who has good written and verbal communication skills including an ability to handle sensitive patient enquiries. You should be able to demonstrate experience of developing managing projects and working with committeesor multi-disciplinary groups. Good time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively are key given the varied nature of this role. You will be educated to at least degree level or equivalent in a biological or clinical subject or have equivalent experience.

horizon-scanning meeting.

Provide support to the management of HFEAS
Scientific and Clinical Advances Advisory Committee (SCAAC) meetings and other working
groups as required. This includes planning meeting agendas and logistics,
drafting and presenting committee papers, liaising with the Chair and committee
members and minuting, and coordinating its work.
3.
Initiate
and project manage policy projects and reviews, taking them from scoping and
planning, to making policy recommendations to the Authority.
4.
Provide
policy support and briefing on scientific and clinical matters to the Chair,
Authority members and senior management.
5.
Represent the Authority at conferences, seminars
and external working groups,
presenting as required.
6.
Build
and maintain good relationships with stakeholders and to provide guidance
and information on scientific and clinical matters externally, for example to
organisations such as other ALBs or professional societies, on matters of scientific
and clinical policy, seeking legal advice as necessary.
7.
Support HFEAs communications function including
drafting briefings, articles, and speech writing, as required.
8.
Reply to often complex enquiries from patients,
professionals and the public and draft answers to Parliamentary Questions or
Freedom of Information Requests (FOIs) concerning Authority policy and
scientific issues.
