Job summary

We require someone who can coordinate and lead software testing and quality-assurance activities within the organisation, primarily focusing on our bespoke IT system which records fertility data from clinics across the UK.

Main duties of the job

This role will be working closely with two software developers and some external development resource and will require someone who is comfortable working as a team but also independently. Experience working with fertility treatment data is desirable, although we would consider applications from candidates who have experience testing with complex datasets.

About us

The HFEA is the UK's independent regulator overseeing safe and appropriate practice in fertility treatment and embryo research. We license and monitor clinics carrying out IVF, donor insemination, and human embryo research.

This post is offered as either office based (in which case you will need to attend the office at least one day per week) or home based (in which case office attendance will be specified by your line manager based on business need). Our office is in Stratford, east London, in attractive new premises on the edge of the Olympic Park, alongside several other health Arms Length Bodies. Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Manage and lead on all testing activities of new software, bug fixes and new features across the HFEAs IT systems.

2. Manage and lead manual testing activities on HFEAs bespoke fertility system (PRISM) which clinics and API suppliers use to submit fertility data to us. Testing activities on other IT systems may be required in future.

3. Responsible for reporting on the testing activities to senior management and provide insights when required.

4. Be the point of escalation to the wider Register Team and provide training and knowledge transfer where necessary.

5. Responsible for identifying inefficiencies where they exist in the software development cycle and recommend improvements to senior management and the wider team.

6. Work closely with HFEAs software developers to analyse and test their changes, provide comprehensive test completion reports to ensure high quality changes are made to our systems.

7. Identifying ways to improve the testing process. Develop and refine test cases where required.

8. Write, review and update reference guide for our system APIs.

9. Liaise with external stakeholders and deal with clinic enquiries.

10. Manage, evaluate, and prioritise defects using the organisational defect management system. Provide trend analysis to the wider team on a regular basis.

11. Document business IT processes when required.

12. Coordinate and lead on Change Requests and refine with key stakeholders.

13. Coordinate and lead on User Acceptance Testing, focusing on stakeholder needs and requirements. Collate testing results and feedback into the development cycle.

14. Take an active role in horizon scanning activities within the organisation to identify upcoming IT requirements.
