Job summary

We are looking for someone who can take raw data and convert it into reliable, consistent and accurate data for further analysis by research teams.

Experience with TSQL is essential.

Main duties of the job

You’ll have data support experience including generating test data and migrating data between systems, including creating and maintaining SQL Server Stored Procedures and DTS Packages. Extensive use of XML queries from SQL is essential along with good experience of Database Modelling and Performance Tuning. It would be desirable if you had experience working with JSON also.

You’ll also need a good understanding of qualitative and quantitative statistical analysis techniques. Experience of working with large patient record databases would be desirable but not essential

The HFEA offer two contract types - home based contracts meaning you can not attend the office more than three times per month or office based which means you need to attend the office once per week.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Ensuring the accuracy and usefulness of data held by HFEA in The Register. This holds detailed, confidential information on fertility treatments and their outcome from 1991 onwards.

2. Data support including generating test data and migrating data between systems.

3. Development of SQL Server Stored Procedures, DTS Packages.

4. Monitoring and improving system performance (identifying problems, performance tuning and redesign work).

5. Design, implementation and monitoring of scheduled jobs, replication and reporting systems.

6. Work autonomously to provide accurate Register data in a timely and accessible manner to the Research and Intelligence team to enable all intelligence publications, including our flagship corporate report, Fertility Trends

7. Populate reporting databases with regular extracts of Register data and work with the team to ensure that extracts continue to provide meaningful, useful and accurate data to meet the requirements of the intelligence team and external stakeholders

8. Provide expertise on the structure and quality of Register data over time, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to determine their requirements. Relay the strengths and limitations of Register data.

9. Work closely with colleagues in the Register and Intelligence teams.

10. Manage and maintain a production environment, encompassing change control and release management

· Understanding the importance of data reconciliation mechanisms to provide measures of confidence

· Manage the storing, handling and manipulation of Register extracts, adhering to best practice information governance and management technology systems. As part of this, communicating insightful information about the data itself for access and appropriate use by others
