Job summary

We are looking for a 12-month fixed term Regulatory Policy Manager to start in October 2021 to lead on regulatory areas of policy related work as required. In this role you will be required to act as the interface between the Policy and Compliance functions, managing regulatory policy projects.

Main duties of the job

A key part of this role is to ensure that the Code of Practice, consent forms and other regulatory tools are up to date and effective, working with the Compliance department to gather feedback through inspection and make any necessary changes.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Project manage regulatory policy projects and reviews, taking them from project initiation and planning, through any public engagement work, to making policy recommendations to the Authority

2. Ensure that the Code of Practice, consent forms and other regulatory tools are up to date and effective, working with the Compliance department to gather feedback through inspection and make any necessary changes

3. Provide policy advice and briefing to the Chair, Authority members and senior management

4. Provide guidance and information, both internally and externally, on matters of Authority policy, seeking legal advice as necessary

5. To handle complex enquiries from patients and professionals and draft answers to Parliamentary Questions concerning Authority policy

6. Provide secretariat support to Committees, working groups or stakeholder groups as required

7. Support HFEAs communications function by drafting briefings, articles, and speeches, as required

8. Represent the Authority at conferences, seminars and external working groups as required

  • Education to at least degree level or equivalent in a scientific, clinical or other relevant subject

Experience

Essential

  • Experience or involvement in policy or inspection work, preferably in a regulatory context
  • Proven project management and analytical skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge or academic experience in ethics, law, the social sciences or biomedical science

Desirable

  • Experience of implementing or evaluating policy
  • Experience of producing evidence based guidance
  • Experience of working closely with senior staff and boards
  • Experience of working with committees
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary groups
  • Experience of line management

  • Strong time management skills and an ability to use initiative to prioritise workload
  • Excellent organisational skills and record keeping, using appropriate software and systems skilfully
  • An ability to remain calm under pressure and to be resilient
