Job summary
The East of England Regional Team in the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) is looking to appoint a full time Consultant in Public Health. It is an exciting time to be joining the region as we develop an integrated Public Health East of England team across DHSC and NHSE. This is a strong team full of expertise and experience with a passion to improve the population's health and reduce disparities. We have strong relationships with the 12 local authority teams across the East of England and make a significant contribution to NHS work with the 6 ICSs.
This is a senior role within OHID East of England and the post holder will have responsibility for providing specialist public health leadership advice and operational management.
Main duties of the job
The job purpose is to lead,
oversee, co-ordinate and deliver high quality, specialist technical and
professional public health leadership, advice and support to central and local
government to drive improvements in health outcomes and reduction in health
inequalities across the population based on evidence of effectiveness and
cost-effectiveness. As a system leader you will work within the region with Directors
of Public Health and their teams, and with NHS partners at system level. Additionally,
you will work with regional public health organisations such as NHS England
including Workforce, Training and Education, UKHSA, and academic partners. The role will require working with national
policy makers as we support development and implementation of policy.

This may include:
- Leadership
on areas of health improvement, which may include liaison with local
authorities, facilitating regional networks, promoting and supporting
OHID-funded public health initiatives, creation and delivery of joint workplans
with NHS England public health teams, and liaison with other Government
Departments.
- Providing
specialist public health advice to Integrated Care Systems, contributing to the
East of England regional public health systems leadership model.
- Contributing
to leadership arrangements in the region, actively taking part in and advising
on business decisions and team management.
The candidate must have a strong commitment to Public Health principles and team working. They must be self-motivated, pro-active and innovative and demonstrate high standards of professional probity as well as have the ability to prioritise work, working well against a background of change and uncertainty. They must be adaptable to situations and can handle people of all capabilities and attitudes and be a sensible negotiator with practical expectation of what can be achieved.

- In accordance with The National Health Service (Appointment of Consultants) Regulations 1996, applicants must be included in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice, the GDC Specialist List, or the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists at the point of application.
- Candidates included in the GMC Specialist Register or GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine or dental public health must have equivalent training or appropriate experience in public health practice.
- Public health specialty registrar applicants currently on the UK public health training programme, who are not yet on the GMC, GDC, or UKPHR specialist register, must provide verifiable evidence that they are within six months of gaining entry to a register by the interview date.
- UK-trained public health applicants must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date.
- Non-UK-trained applicants must provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
- Applicants must meet the minimum CPD requirements in accordance with Faculty of Public Health or another recognized body.
- Candidates must hold MFPH by examination, exemption, or assessment, or an equivalent qualification.
