Job summary

South East Region in the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) is looking to appoint a full time Deputy Director for Health Improvement. The role is open to Consultants in Public Health with senior level experience.

OHID South East is an excellent location to be the Deputy Director of Health Improvement. There is a strong team full of expertise and experience, with a passion to improve the populations health and reduce disparities. We have strong relationships with local authority teams across the South East and make a significant contribution to the NHS work. We have shared posts with the Workforce, Training and Education Directorate of NHS England and are supported by a business intelligence function.

Main duties of the job

This is a senior post which will support the Regional Director OHID/Regional Director of Public Health for NHSE in working with partners to build and develop the regional public health system through the provision of expert advice and insight and their operational responsibility for the delivery of the health improvement and workforce development functions. The Deputy Director leads a specialist public health team contributing to improving and protecting the publics health and reducing health inequalities in the region by supporting implementation of national public health policy and local strategies. The post holder has operational responsibility for the provision of safe and effective health improvement and workforce development advice and support, delivered to high standards and which is responsive to the needs of the communities and partners in the regional public health system. The Deputy Director will also provide leadership to national programmes.

The candidate must have a strong commitment to Public Health principles and team working. They must be self-motivated, pro-active and innovative and demonstrate high standards of professional probity as well as have the ability to prioritise work, working well against a background of change and uncertainty. They must be adaptable to situations and can handle people of all capabilities and attitudes and be a sensible negotiator with practical expectation of what can be achieved.

About us

The Office of Health and Disparities (OHID) in the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) drives the Governments health improvement agenda. Under the professional leadership of the Chief Medical Officer, OHID leads the development and delivery of the Governments work to improve and level up health outcomes with a clear focus on public health, prevention and health disparities. This includes cross-government action on the wider determinants of health.
