Job summary
We are seeking qualified Best Interest Assessors (BIA) to join the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Team.
Main duties of the job
As a Best Interest Assessor youll provide effective safeguards for members of the public who fall within the remit of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) legislation by providing a high quality assessment and advice based on the statutory requirements arising from the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA), ensuring compliance with Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
Working within relevant policies, practises, and procedures under the direction of your team leader, youll coordinate the DoLS assessment process within statutory timescales. Recognising safeguarding concerns, youll act in line with local and national policy to improve outcomes for people.
Youll provide expert advice to social work colleagues, other agencies and the general public ensuring an effective and consistent multi-agency approach to DoLS. You will support the training requirements for Best Interest Assessor candidates and provide and you will help ensure our policies and practices are as effective, efficient and robust as possible.

- Social Work, Occupational Therapy or similar e.g. CQSW, DipSW, Nursing, and have current registration with the relevant body for this
Experience

- You must hold a post qualified award as a best interest assessor (BIA). Youll have comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and codes of practice and the interface between the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act, along with local and national issues in health and social care. You must have been practising regularly as a qualified best interest assessor (BIA) within the past 2 years and have completed required mandatory annual BIA refresher training within the last 12 months.
- In addition, youll need to hold a degree in Social Work, Occupational Therapy or similar e.g. CQSW, DipSW, Nursing, and have current registration with the relevant body for this. The successful candidate will have experience in assessing complex needs for adults, youll have a robust background of working in adult social care or health care with the ability to use your initiative, prioritisation and time keeping skills to manage and prioritise allocated cases. Youll have excellent knowledge of partnership agencies and experience of partnership working, as well as a creative and pragmatic solution skillset to meet individual needs and have confidence working effectively in difficult and challenging situations. Youll show excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong administration and IT skills to be able to efficiently present information and reports. As part of the application process should you be selected for interview, you will be required to submit an anonymised Form 3 DoLS assessment that you have completed for evaluation purposes. The ideal candidate will need to live local to Leicester City or within the surrounding area of Leicestershire or, be prepared to relocate.
