Main duties of the job

As a Senior Public Health Officer, you will work under the direction of Public Health Managers to lead and support a range of projects and programmes aimed at improving health outcomes. Working flexibly, you will work collaboratively with internal and external partners, to build on community strengths, and on evidence of what matters to local people and what works.

The initial focus for the post will be on planning, coordinating, and commissioning interventions and services and implementing programmes of work around tobacco control and treating tobacco dependency.

You will join a supportive team with a commitment to professional development to enable you to make your own contribution to improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of residents of Gloucestershire.

Working across the commissioning cycle, this is one of a number of Senior Public Health Officer posts that will work flexibly as a team (under the direction of senior colleagues) to support and lead programme development and delivery across the portfolio areas covered by the Public Health and Communities Hub. The role will contribute to the delivery of interventions and strategies to protect and improve the publics health and reduce health inequalities in support of Council and wider system priorities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good levels of literacy and numeracy evidenced by GCSEs Grade A
  • C, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualifications.
  • Good ICT skills, to include experience of using Microsoft Office
  • applications including Excel, and the ability to learn and embrace new
  • systems and technology
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Relevant professional, project management, procurement, or
  • commissioning qualification or equivalent professional experience at an
  • appropriate level which clearly meets the role requirements.
