We are looking for someone with a passion in dementia care to join our Admiral Nurse team.

In collaboration with Dementia UK, Harrow Council are looking to recruit a registered Nurse (RN, RMNH, RNLD) to join our team as an Admiral Nurse to deliver relationship-centred dementia care to families across the London Borough of Harrow.

This post is initially funded for 1 - 2 years.

You’ll be a registered nurse (RN, RNMH, RNLD) with a passion for dementia care, alongside relevant post-registration clinical experience of supporting families affected by dementia.

Main duties of the job

Admiral Nurses are registered nurses who are dementia specialists. They help families manage complex needs, considering the person living with dementia and the people around them. Under the supervision of the Admiral Nurse Clinical Lead, you will provide tailored clinical advice and psychological support to families affected by dementia. You will also help to support best practice with other health and care professionals in Harrow.

You will receive ongoing support from Dementia UK to maintain and strengthen your clinical expertise as a specialist nurse within dementia care. You will become part of the wider network of Admiral Nurses and will have the opportunity to access relevant post graduate courses and develop professionally, as informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework.

You’ll be employed by Harrow Council. You’ll have the flexibility to work from our Harrow Offices, whilst on the move and at home.

Job responsibilities

Role Purpose

The primary focus of the Admiral Nurse role is to deliver person–centred and relationship- centred dementia care within operational areas of Harrow Council to improve the experience of carers/families affected by dementia*.

The post holder will:

• Deliver evidence based dementia care and support improvements in the experience for families affected by dementia*.

• Provide and utilise advance comprehensive assessment, care planning and psychosocial interventions to enhance the quality of life of those affected by dementia and their carers/ families.

• Partnership working with local providers to promote and improve provision of services for people with dementia and their carers and families.

• Provide support/education to colleagues, other health / social care professionals/providers in dementia care.

• Support the delivery of key quality and performance indicators relating to dementia care, including the experience of families.

• Manage a complex case-load of clients (patients and families/carers) as appropriate to the capacity of the role.

• Apply the Admiral Nurse Competency framework at a specialist level, including person-centred care, therapeutic skills, and triadic relationships, sharing knowledge, best practice and critical reflective practice

Supporting Harrow Adult Social Care vision of developing resilient communities.

• The post holder will work in partnership with community and inpatient services across Harrow, focussing particularly on supporting colleagues in primary care, voluntary and Adult Social Care.
