Job summary

Hartlepool Borough Council are seeking to recruit and sponsor motivated, qualified Registered Nurses or Midwives who wish to undertake the 12 month Specialist Community Public Health Course (Health Visiting), subject to funding approval. The programme is split between clinical practice and university attendance over the period of 1 year, where upon successful completion of the training programme, you will gain the SCPHN qualification and become a Health Visitor.

Job responsibilities

Purpose of Post

The student will:

Take responsibility to maximise their learning experience to fully integrate theory to practice as a Specialist Practitioner in Health Visiting.

Successfully achieve the PGDip as a Specialist Practitioner in Health Visiting by the end of the university course.

Key Relationships

To effectively communicate with all staff in the Early Help Locality Teams.

To ensure appropriate liaison between clients, carers, multi-agency teams, voluntary and statutory agencies to ensure a comprehensive network of care is provided under the supervision of the practice assessor.

To work with a range of health and social care practitioners in consultation with your practice assessor and supervisors.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To attend all formal teaching sessions at the university and submit the required assignments as stipulated

2. To take responsibility in organising regular tripartite meeting with your practice teacher and university tutor

3. To fully participate in the teaching strategies used by the practice teacher

4. To develop professional knowledge and competence, pertaining to Health Visiting and relevant to safe standards of professional practice

5. To safely maintain confidential professional records that are accurate, relevant, legible and contemporaneous

6. Under the supervision of the practice teacher delegated caseload and supervise staff if appropriate. To develop experience in supervising staff

7. To undertake nursing and public health duties under direct and indirect supervision of practice teacher

8. To act in accordance with all Council policies

9. To develop skills in nurse prescribing, leading to qualification

10. To demonstrate the ability to prescribe safely and effectively

11. To communicate with patients/clients concerning health needs /assessments overcoming barriers and engaging their cooperation

12. Liaising with external agencies to negotiate elements of care

13. Develop expertise in patient/client assessment and decisions regarding ongoing care/input

14. To develop and deliver training appropriate to specialty, colleagues, groups and patient/clients

15. To be exposed to patients /clients in distressing situations in order to gain experience of managing their care

16. To undertake direct client care as required by patient/client need
