Job summary

About the role

  • Work closely with our Occupational Therapists to provide exemplary services that meet the needs of the residents of Rutland.
  • Work within our integrated health and social care therapy team, across our D2A pathway, and reablement service
  • Aim to keep people living in their own homes through provision of minor adaptations and equipment.
  • Practice daily activities to regain independence including mobility and transfers.
  • Work flexibly to cover a 7-day service.

We welcome applications from individuals who do not have any experience and are looking to start a career in Therapy Services, in which case full training will be provided.

Please note that a full driving licence is needed as the post holder will be required to travel around the county.

The successful applicant for this post will be subject to an enhanced check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The costs for the DBS are paid by us.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant interviews will be held on 08 June 2023. Please be advised this could be subject to change, in which case we will give appropriate notice.

Main duties of the job

1. To provide a high standard Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy service to all service users

2. To undertake initial assessments of non-complex service users as deemed appropriate by a qualified clinician

3. Demonstrate the ability to conduct face to face or remote assessments/intervention

4. Undertake assessments and arrange for provision of equipment and adaptations to maximise their independence and safety as required

5. To undertake skilled and specialised support work which may involve clinical techniques requiring higher level technical skills to assess and treat service users with complex conditions within their own homes

6. To work unsupervised with individual service users, making recommendations and alterations to support/reablement plans according to protocols, reporting back progress and informing OT/Physiotherapist of any relevant issues

7. To assess capacity, gain valid & effective consent and work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment

8. Ensure the active involvement of service users and carers in assessments, the development of support plans and accessing Direct Payments

9. To demonstrate the use of equipment and evaluate that it is being used safely and appropriately

10.To assist service users before, during and following assessment/intervention, ensuring their safety, comfort, privacy and dignity

Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience of working as a Band 3 Technical Instructor or equivalent within a health or social care setting.
  • Understanding of the roles of Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nursing Services, Social Services and the Voluntary and Private sectors.
